Retire Downtown
I'm hoping that as time goes on and as the fields of the urban residential development projects start to bear fruit downtown that we see a continued emergence of crusaders, marketers and enthusiasts to promote and educate the masses on the concepts of New Urbanism.
I touched on the concept of New Urbanism in a posting last week and tout it as the THE topic that needs to be used to educate the masses. Living in an urban community goes much deeper than the "cool" factor and I assure you that introducing yourself to the concepts behind the movement will significantly broaden your vision of what is possible with downtown Columbus.
To that effect I introduce [enter stage left] Kyle Ezell. Much more than an enthusiast, Kyle is an author and a speaker on all things urban. I've only personally met Kyle very briefly in the past and have exchanged a few e-mails with him but I can say with out reservation that I consider him a comrade in arms, a fighter for the cause.
Kyle has written multiple books and does a good deal of public speaking on the urban topics. It is very safe to safe that Kyle spends his time more at the core of urban education than on the fringes of urban hype.
To that effect, Kyle is in the process of writing another book and is looking for some written contributions from retirees and empty nesters to write two to five pages about their experiences of choosing to retire, or downsize, or empty nest in Downtown Columbus or its surrounding neighborhoods. I'll let Kyle's website explain the rest:

Kyle Ezell
...Retire Downtown! presents young-minded and active retirees and empty nesters with a fresh way of viewing retirement--as a new beginning (rather than banishment)--by organizing the chapters into the following downtown lifestyle categories: living, working, playing, shopping, and getting around. This will allow millions of upcoming retirees to throw out their suburban 55 retirement community brochures and consider living in convenient, stylish downtown housing instead...

If anyone wants a good reason as to why we should all be considering New Urbanism I recommend watching The End of Surburbia.
